Graduated with Honor shows at Funglode
Paula Saneaux, the most outstanding student in Altos de Chavon School of Design’s class of 2005, had her first solo show at FUNGLODE this past Thursday July 14th.
Paula Saneaux got the highest GPA of the class she just graduated from at Altos de Chavon School of design and she’s already packing her bags to continue her studies in Parsons The New School of Design in New York, the prestigious newyorker school that gave her a scholarship due her outstanding grades. Now, she’s showing her talent and her artwork, that made her an honor student, in a show that will open next Thursday July the 4th at the Fundación Global Democracia y Desarrollo (FUNGLODE).
“The Pracas” is the name of the show that includes 16 paintings of medium format and a life size sculpture.
The exhibit is the first of more shows that FUNGLODE and Casa de Chavon will work together with.
Three characters of roman mythology, in charge of sewing the destiny of humans are the inspiration for Saneaux’s work, who shows an imagination full of details.
“My characters are the result of “The Pracas” who suffer exaggeratedly as they themselves can stop this “pain” and are responsible for it”, the artist says and explains that it’s the representation of what challenges teenagers in their lives when something happens to them.
“They think the world is falling apart but there’s no reason to suffer; you choose to be there or you do something about it. If you don’t feel comfortable with it, don’t do it. If you suffer too much, get away from it, if there’s no solution there’s no reason to suffer. Everything is in our hands. We sew our own destiny”, the designer says to guide us through the brush strokes she’s made.
After she got her Bachelor in Advertising in Apec as a Summa Cum Laude, she started studying Fine Arts in Altos de Chavon School of Design where she got her Associate’s Degree in Fine Arts, achieving Summa Cum Laude and at the same time, Valedictorian (the highest GPA of the entire class).
She earned a full tuition scholarship to complete her Bachelor Degree in Fine Arts in Parsons The New School of Design in New York, Saneaux also, got a summer Drawing and Painting class scholarship from the same institution.
When she was 16 years old, she briefly took some classes in the Painting School Guillo Perez.
The artist loves to paint portraits although she says she also likes landscapes with a sublime atmosphere.
“I’m inspired by artists like Rembrandt, La Tour, Caravaggio, Nerdrum and Curri; my intention is to pursue a realistic style that doesn’t just creates a beautiful work but a story, or thousands of stories, that the viewer can identify after exploring the image” , the artist says.
