ARTIST BIO

Paula Saneaux has exhibited her paintings in Washington D.C., New York, Chicago, Wisconsin, Maryland, Los Angeles, and the Dominican Republic, including important venues such as the Washington County Museum of Fine Arts in Maryland, Wausau Museum of Contemporary Art in Wisconsin, the Dominican Museum of Modern Art, among others. Her work is held in several public and private collections including the Central Bank and the Cándido Bidó Museum in the Dominican Republic. Her private collections are held in Brussels, Madrid, Mexico City, Miami, New York, Rome, Santo Domingo, Turin, and Washington D.C.

In recognition of excellence, Saneaux has received numerous awards including an MSAC Independent Artists Award, the Elizabeth Greenshields Foundation Grant of Canada, and the Bluhdorn Scholarship for Parsons School of Design of New York, among others. In January 2016, she received the American Green Card for “Artists of Extraordinary Ability” which is granted to a small percentage of people with extraordinary abilities in the field of science, arts, education, business, or sports.

She graduated with a BFA in Fine Arts from Parsons School of Design of New York, an AA in Fine Arts and Illustration from Altos de Chavon School of Design, and a BA in Advertising from APEC University in the Dominican Republic.

Saneaux explores topics related to the fragility of life, self-objectification, human behavior, mental health, and social influences. She constructs a narrative with diverse meanings in her paintings using symbols. She tries to leave the viewer orphaned with a mix of conflicting feelings and thoughts to start conversations about the themes she is portraying.

Born in the Dominican Republic, Paula Saneaux lives and works in Maryland.
